Rather than the instructor dictating the articles to be read, the student searches through the science education literature and select a topic or issue. The issues may change or be refined as the student proceeds throughout the semester.
This assignment requires that the student identify two articles per week to review on a self-selected topic or issue. The annotated bibliography is written in a single document and placed in the Annotated Bibliography Summary Folder. Title the document "Annotated Bibliography - Topic". For example if formative assessment is chosen, then the title would be "Annotated Bibliography - Formative Assessment." The assessment rubric can be found HERE.
Toward the end of the semester a summary report of the annotated bibliography is written by the student. The original is included as the second document in their Annotated Bibliography Summary Folder and uploaded to TK20. Use the title "Annotated Bibliography Summary on Topic". For example, using the formative assessment as a topic, then the title would be "Annotated Bibliography on Formative Assessment Report". This report is due on April 11, 2015.
The report will be evaluated using a rubric. The rubric identifies four elements: (1) the students approach to organizing, group, and selecting issues, (2) systematic method for searching and retrieving information about a topic or issue, (3) the quality of the summary report to identify applicability to science education, and (4) the identification of implications that the topic or issue has on science education. The assessment categorizes the element as to whether the expectation is met, met with weakness, or not met.
